What if you could boost your metabolism without counting calories, resorting to tiny portions or giving up  the foods you love?

What were things like before you started at BFF?

I changed jobs and started working from home. I thought I would do workout videos from home but it just wasn’t happening. I couldn’t motivate myself to change and turn the DVD on and do it. So I actually just fell very much out of my regular habits and started gaining weight.

Before my schedule changed, I was a gym-goer. Nothing crazy, just the treadmill or the elliptical, then some strength work on the side. So I wasn’t an experienced gym-goer or anything like that, but I definitely did gain some weight since I moved back home and started working from home. That was unfortunate.

So shortly after that time, I was scrolling through Facebook and Becky Fox Fitness popped up.

The key for me was the times that she was having her classes because I had to have something that worked in my schedule. So I’m one of the original 5:30 am crew girls.

We always laugh about it because it’s been great to see the class grow and just have so many other participants in it because we’re all nuts to be somewhere and exercising at 5:30 in the morning, but that’s really where I was before and how I got to be where I am now.

So what is the atmosphere like at BFF?

It’s extremely welcoming. Everyone walks in and we say good morning. We do a little bit of chitchat if you have time. We all know each other’s names because you partner up for stuff so you just introduce yourself real quick and just say, “Hey, how are you?”

Since you’ve been to other gyms, what would you say is the biggest difference between other gyms and BFF?

Going to the gym is just a very lonely process. It’s just you. But now having this experience of it being more like a family and welcoming, that’s been very motivating.  Others expect you to be there, “Oh, I said I’d see them Saturday. I have to make sure I get there.”

This has helped me stay on track and growing new relationships has been great.

My husband sees it as well in me. He sees that I’m excited to go to class.

When I come back and tell him, “Oh, you know, Patty said this.” Or “I’m meeting them up for drinks later” or things like that, is just as far as a community goes, being able to have another outlet for friendships, that’s been really great.

And it’s different every time you go in. There’s different exercises. You get used to them too, but there might be a different twist or in a different way or different amounts of reps. So you’re not necessarily doing the same thing every time you goin which is great.

It keeps it moving and it keeps it different and fun.

What results have you seen since starting?

The first five pounds flew off! The inches have gotten smaller and my jeans are much looser. I’ve even dropped a size. It makes all the difference in the world!

Also, balance, for me, has been really key.

For example, I have a friend who lives out in LA and I was out visiting her and she has a rooftop where we go out to see the view of the hills. You have to climb over a couple of smaller roofs in order to get to her area. And I did it last summer and I was like,

“Wow. Holy crap, I might actually fall off this roof!”

And then I did it again not too long ago and it was no big deal. I just had that confidence back, but also that balancing, which I think that for me was really a big take away in what I’ve been able to do.

Its just a pretty cool feeling.
